Aiming to cure your tinnitus , it’s really important to have the most precise idea as possible about all its aspects.

The check of your tinnitus shall include not only audio-related aspects but also psychological and emotional aspects.

Two complementary pathways are commonly used for this purpose:

    • Audio measurements.
    • Tinnitus questionnaires.
  • Audio  measurements  are important, as it  will give you physical information about your tinnitus. But it does not reliably reflect how bothersome tinnitus is across individuals. This is the role of a questionnaire.
  • Self-reported questionnaires allow to quantify tinnitus severity and to measure change in tinnitus handicap over time. Several different questionnaires exist, each one focusing more on certain aspect.

Tinnitus Handicap Inventory Questionnaire.

The most used questionnaire worldwide is the Tinnitus Handicap Inventory (THI).

The 25-item THI was developed as a brief diagnostic and screening tool to measure the impact of tinnitus on everyday function. It uses three response options; yes (score 4), sometimes (score 2), or no (score 0). Total scores range from 0-100, with higher scores indicating higher tinnitus handicap..
In terms of clinical use, a grading system has been developed in which THI scores define five categories of tinnitus severity (slight, mild, moderate, severe and catastrophic) providing usable clinical categories.

In most cases, tinnitus is perceived as a constant noise.

This means that it might be described by some physical parameters, and the most important among them is the frequency.

By playing a sound at a fixed frequency, and comparing it to youy tinnitus, you should be able to identify the frequency of your tinnitus.
